Calcium Chloride (CaCl₂) is widely used as a brine in completion, workover, and packer fluids, as well as in water-based drilling fluids, including those applied in thermal well drilling operations.

Advantages

Suitable for use in invert emulsion fluid systems, where it is added to the dispersed aqueous phase to balance chemical activity with the formation and minimize osmotic effects.
Widely used throughout the oilfield.

Applications

Used in drilling fluids to prepare high-density brines for completion, workover, gravel packing, perforating, and packer fluid applications.
Due to its divalent ionic charge, it is less commonly applied in reservoir drill-in fluids.

Recommended Treatment

Calcium Chloride is soluble in water up to a density of 11.6 lb/gal.
